Privacy notice for FOUNDATION orders

Who is responsible

THIS CHILDHOOD is operated by Purp Capital Co Inc. The person responsible for privacy is our Privacy Officer, reachable at thischildhoodco@gmail.com. Our separate website privacy notice covers the waitlist and website analytics.

What we collect

Your account: your email address and the one-time codes you use to sign in.

Your family details: the names, relationships and ages or life stages of the people you include, your pets, your illustration choices and your dedication.

Your photos: the photos of people and pets you upload for the illustrations.

Your order: your name, email, billing address and country, the amounts, tax and payment status, which Stripe passes to us. We never receive your full card number.

Records of use: when you sign in, upload, pay, and receive or download your book, with technical information such as IP address and browser type kept by our hosting and security systems.

When you download your book, our storage provider records the time, your IP address, approximate location and device type; we keep this with your order records to prevent payment fraud.

Messages you send us, such as support and privacy requests.

Children’s information

Because FOUNDATION is about your family, you may give us your children’s names, ages and photos. Only a parent or guardian, or someone they have authorized, should provide them. FOUNDATION is for adults; we do not knowingly collect information directly from children.

How we use it

We use your information to create, review and deliver your book, to answer questions and handle corrections and refunds, to take payment, to prevent fraud and handle disputes, to keep tax and accounting records, and to keep the service secure.

We do not sell your personal information, show your photos publicly, use them in advertising or use them to train AI models. We send your photos to our image-generation provider only as visual references for your illustrations. We do not use facial recognition to identify anyone.

When you upload a photo, we convert it to a standard image format and remove embedded information such as location data. Photos are encrypted in transit and when stored, and only authorized members of our team and the providers below can access them.

Who we share it with

We use these service providers, each for its own part of the service: Stripe (payments; receives your billing details, not your photos); Supabase (sign-in, our database and private photo storage); Vercel (website hosting); Resend (sending email); Google (our support email); and PostHog, for optional website analytics only if you allow it, which never receives your photos, names or answers.

We use third-party AI image services to turn your photos into illustrations. Today we use Kie.ai (NEXUSAI SERVICES LLC, Denver, Colorado, USA), which runs image models from providers such as OpenAI. We send these services only your photos and scene instructions, never your names, email address, address or order details. Kie.ai’s terms allow it to use content only to operate and improve its services, so we cannot promise your photos are never used to improve its service. Kie.ai deletes uploaded files within 24 hours, generated images after 14 days and request logs after 2 months. We may change or add image services to improve quality or cost. We will update this notice before a new service receives your photos, and every service gets only the same limited information.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect our customers or our business from fraud or abuse.

Where it is processed

We run THIS CHILDHOOD from Ontario, Canada. Our providers store and process information in the United States and possibly other countries (Supabase: us-east-1; Kie.ai: the United States and possibly other countries). Information held in another country is subject to that country’s laws.

How long we keep it

Unfinished editions you have not paid for, including their photos: deleted about 7 days after you last save changes.

Photos, reference images and working files for paid orders: kept while your book is being made, and deleted about 7 days after your book is delivered or your order is cancelled. If we need specific material to resolve a production problem or a request from you, we keep only that material, for up to 30 more days, and record why.

Your finished book files: kept for up to 12 months after first delivery so you can download them.

Order, payment, tax and refund records: kept as long as tax, accounting and legal requirements need them. We keep them for 7 years after the order. Support messages: kept for 2 years after your last message.

Deletion runs as a scheduled hourly process, so it is not instant. Backup copies expire on their own schedule (within 7 days), and copies held by providers are deleted under their own terms. Kie.ai deletes photos uploaded to it within 24 hours and keeps the images it generates for 14 days.

Your choices

While building your edition, you can replace or remove a photo. A removed photo is no longer used for your book, and its file is deleted with your unfinished edition’s other data.

To delete your edition early, email thischildhoodco@gmail.com. We stop your edition, and its photos and saved details are removed by our next scheduled cleanup, usually within two days. If you have paid and production has not begun, this cancels the order with a full refund.

You can ask for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct it, by emailing thischildhoodco@gmail.com. We respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the privacy regulator where you live; in Canada, that is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Security and changes

We protect your information with encryption, restricted access and separate storage for photos. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.

If we change this notice, we will post the new version here with its date. Material changes will not apply to photos you uploaded before the change without telling you.
